Back to Wyoming
We are back in Wyoming. On our way back we decided to make it a vacation. We stopped in Kentucky and Navuoo.
Church Hill Downs
This is where the Kentucky Derby is held. They had a really fun museum, and then we got to go on a tour of the race track.
This place is HUGE!
We were able to see some horses warming up for a race. It was incredible to see how fast they can go.

| The race is on....who do you think won?? |
We had a lot of fun at Church Hill Downs, Trevor wants to go to the Kentucky Derby now!
Nauvoo
Nelle made me take a small 300 mile detour to Nauvoo but I'm really glad she did. Nauvoo is incredible. Nelle had never been before. It was a fun experience.
The Temple is sooo beautiful. We were at the temple at dusk, and it was really pretty to see the sun setting by the temple over the Mississippi.
The stones on the temple really reflect the sunset!
A neat statue of Joseph and Hyrum leaving Nauvoo for the last time.

| Us standing on the front steps of the temple! |

| A beautiful sunset over the Mississippi! |

| So this was the shoe makers shop, and we put this picture in because he has a really neat story. We can't even remember the name of the owner but he had a small business in Ohio when a Mormon came and worked for him. The member told him a little bit about the Mormons and the persecution they were going through. This perked his interest and a few months later he sold his shop and took his family to Nauvoo. After being there a few weeks he decided that the church was true and on a frigged winter day they cut the ice on the river and baptized him and his wife. The lady there said it was amazing that he searched out the church on his own. Another cool thing was once he was there he became very successful and probably should have expanded his shop but he decided to keep it small so he could provide jobs for new converts coming into the area. |
 |
| The Red brick store owned by Joseph Smith. It still sells things much like it would during the saints time in Nauvoo. We bought some rock candy and old fashion root beer. |
 |
| James H. Rollins in the Red Brick Stores store log...there are some pretty cool names on the list with his. |
 |
| The Rollins estate! Pretty cool they lived on the same street as the Smith's and visited the red brick store quite frequently. Also another kind of cool tidbit is Nelle's great great grandpa and Trevor's great great grandpa where body guards for Joseph Smith so they probably knew each other how crazy is that...I hope they liked each other because now they are related hehe. |
 |
| The Redden estate! He lived kind of off by himself it seems. But there is still a house on the ground and I wonder if maybe it was one he built... |
Carthage Jail
Carthage Jail was really neat, probably the most spiritual place we went. Our guide was really good to point out the good influence Joseph had on all those around him.
Nelle looking out the window, luckly no mob today..
A quote I really liked on a plac at Carthage.
"Patience is heavenly, obedience is noble, forgiveness is merciful, and exaltation is Godly, and he that holds out faithful to the end shall in no wise lose his reward. A good man will endure all things to honor Christ, and even dispose of the whole world, and all in it to save his soul."

-Hyrum Smith
Adom-ondi-Ahman
We just made a quick stop here. It was after closing but it was really peaceful there, and it was really neat to see the sunset there.
Pack Trip
On July 4th we headed to the Red Castle with some of Nelle's family for a four day pack trip.
Trevor fishing at the middle Red Castle lake, where he caught two fish. Pathetic huh...
Waterfall, by the middle lake, it was really pretty.
Looking up at Middle Red Castle Lake from the water fall, its a really big lake for not being man made.
Yep those are rain clouds, a rare occurrence in Utah but it rained and rained and rained!
Red Castle, I asked Trevor why it was called Red Castle, now I know.
It rained every afternoon, except for the first day. We headed out to go on a hike when we thought it had stopped raining. We got across the river and it started pouring so we headed back to camp.
